As the second largest producer of wines in North America, Washington's wineries are internationally acclaimed. And to change up the tasting pace, stop by one of the 5 small distilleries in Woodinville!A few tips on how to sip like a local!
1) Spend the night

Don't be fooled by the industrial park that houses these fantastic wineries. Over 35 wineries call the warehouses home. On the Third Thursday of each month through October, join in the fun for a wine walk at the warehouse district. Each month has a different theme - including chocolate pairing, dog walks and more! 3) Make it a Distillery Tour! Viston one of the OTHER tasting rooms in Woodinville! There are five distilleries in Woodinville and four host tasting tours. Stop by Pacific Distillery, Project V Distillery, Woodinville Whiskey Co., and Soft Tail Spirits. If you are thinking of biking to your tasting tours - both Soft Tail Spirits and the Woodinville Whiskey Co. are on the west side of the Sammamish River along Northeast Woodinville Drive-Woodinville Redmond Road. It's a flat, five-minute bike ride between the two. 4) Take a Friday night wine tour Every three months, a dining favorite in Bothell has teams up with Butler Transportation to offer a fun Friday evening of wine and great dining. Catch the Butler Transportation Mercedes sprinter for a wine tour of local wineries and make reservations for dinner afterward. The tour includes a minimum of 3 stops at the wineries in the Warehouse District. Wine purchased on the tour may be brought back to the restaurant and opened without a corkage fee. Participating wineries waive the tasting fees. Tours leave the restaurant at 3:30 pm and are $25 per person. Reservations are required so call early! To learn more visit Butler's website and for reservations call 206-679-3158. 5) Learn! Attend a Winemaker dinner Russell's regularly hosts winemaker dinners with Woodinville area wineries. The fall 2011 season includes some favorites: Efeste, William Church, Obelisco and Betz Family wineries. Dinners are five courses of deliciousness paired with five wines. Chef Russell Lowell walks you through the courses while the winemaker discusses the wines. Fun! 6) Visit the wineries by bike Bothell is located on the Sammamish River Trail that connects to the Burke-Gilman Trail, both of which run along former railroad tracks...so they are nice and broad and flat! Bothell Ski & Bike rents cruiser bikes especially for the purpose of cruising the trail and visiting the wineries, many of which are adjacent to the bike path. |
