Inspired by Terroir!
Al•ma•Ter•ra (n.) 1: Spirit of the earth; earth’s soul; 2: The perfect union of earth’s magic and farming’s bounty; 3: Wines that reflect the balance of geology, soil, climate, vineyard practices and wine making.

The ALMA TERRA project is a winemaking collaberation between a geologist-viticulturist, a winemaker from a fourth-generation Northwest farming family, and passionate wine-grape growers; grapes for Alma Terra wines are grown in select vineyards in Washington State that are wonderfully terrior expressive for Syrah.

The AlmaTerra wines project is dedicated to making wines — from diverse Washington American Viticultural Areas(AVAs)— that express terroir in every glass. Terroir is the complex interplay of climate, soils, geology, and vineyard practices that influences the character and quality of wine grapes. Terroir, along with great wine making, is what gives wine its individuality.

The vineyard terroirs of Washington State were born of primal earth forces: Earth, Fire, Water and Air. The wonderfully diverse combinations of climate, geology and soils create vineyard terroirs that befit the AlmaTerra project.

In this first release of AlmaTerra wines, 2006 Syrah wines are featured. The fruit comes from three outstanding Northwest vineyards — Ciel du Cheval Vineyard in the the Red Mountain AVA; Coyote Canyon Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA and Minick Vineyard in theYakima Valley AVA. The fourth wine is a hand crafted blend of the three.
AlmaTerra wines are made with utmost respect for the fruit grown by our passionate grape-grower partners. Grapes for each wine were treated in exactly the same way from hand harvest, to the crush pad and fermentation, to barrel, to bottling, so that each wine is a pure expression of the Syrah grape grown on different vineyard terroirs.
